Eleanor Holmes Norton responding to your message:
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Marijuana Justice Act (H.R. 4815/S. 1689). I very much appreciate hearing from you.
I am an original cosponsor of H.R. 4815, which would remove marijuana from the federal Controlled Substances Act. I have also recently introduced a bill, the Marijuana in Federally Assisted Housing Parity Act (H.R. 6152), that would permit, in compliance with the marijuana laws of the jurisdiction where the property is located, the use of marijuana in federally assisted housing. I have attached a copy of my press release on this bill for your information. I will continue to work with colleagues in the House and Senate to pass these bills. I have also successfully defended the District of Columbia’s law legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes from efforts in Congress to block it. I am continuing to fight to remove the prohibition on the District spending its local funds to commercialize recreational marijuana.
Please continue to keep me informed of your views on legislation and other congressional issues. I also invite you to contact me whenever you have a personal federal issue or a problem for which you think I can be helpful. I hope you visit my website at www.norton.house.gov and sign up for my weekly newsletter, where I report the earliest information on what I am doing in Congress, and view my seasonal newsletter. I also invite you to follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Please note that our constituent services office has moved to the front entrance of a new building at 90 K Street NE. Please visit or call us at (202) 408-9041 if you are in need of constituent services.
