2020 State of the States Report live presentation (online) September 10 2020
After months of work by ASA’s national staff and with the support of our chapters, members and sponsors we are pleased to present our 2020 State of the States Report: An Analysis of Medical Cannabis Access in the United States. This report is our sixth annual comparison and analysis of the medical cannabis programs of all 50 states (including the three that do not allow medical cannabis), the District of Columbia and four of the five U.S. territories. These reports have increased in both scope and scale over the years and this edition is nearly 200 pages.
The purpose of this report is to help lawmakers and regulators learn from other states how to better serve their own medical cannabis patients. However, while the grades have improved since 2014, we have seen state scores reach a plateau that we believe indicates the limits of what a jurisdiction can accomplish without the federal legalization of medical cannabis.
This year, our report also includes information on the registered patient population, percent of population represented by patients, number of licensed retail locations currently in operation, ratio of patients to population, as well as information on how each state or jurisdiction reacted to the COVID crisis.
We will be formally debuting this report at the 2020 National Cannabis Policy Summit which is streaming live online today. Registration is free so we strongly encourage you to watch if you can spare a little time today. Our presentation will begin at 3:50pm Eastern Time so please tune in and be among the first to hear about our analysis of medical cannabis in 2020.
