Do the Right Thing: Diversity and Inclusion in the Cannabis Industry – September 15 2016
You are invited to attend a Congressional policy briefing on the importance of ensuring diversity and inclusion in the cannabis industry on Thursday September 15th at 3:00pm in the Rayburn House Office Building during the Congressional Black Caucus 46th Annual Legislative Conference. After the briefing, a reception featuring some most promising minority entrepreneurs and investors in the cannabis space will be held at Mason and Rook Hotel rooftop bar.
26 states have decided to end cannabis prohibition leading to the creation of legalized marketplaces for the sale of cannabis currently estimated to be $7.1 billion dollars in size. Unfortunately, it is also estimated that only 1% of this market is owned and operated by people from communities of color. This is particularly startling given that 70-80% of arrest for cannabis possession pre-legalization come from these same communities.
Come listen to current minority owners in the cannabis industry discuss their experiences operating in the market, potential solutions to address the disparity, and opportunities to use the cannabis industry as a vehicle to restore the harms caused by the war on drugs.
