Medicated Memorial Day (online) May 21 2020
Be sure to RSVP early for this week’s CannaGather Digital: Medicated Memorial Day with US Army Veterans and Cannabis Industry Rock Stars, Leo Bridgewater & Dan Schmink!
My grandfather is an US Army veteran and I was born at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. My mother married my stepfather (Army, too) when I was 5, and our family ended up moving to Germany for 5 years before ultimately settling back in Fluvanna County, Virginia until college.
Growing up an Army brat, I’ve always viewed Memorial Day weekend a bit differently than the commercialized version we’ve grown accustomed to in mainstream America. Not only did I have a more worldly view of pretty much everything, but also a much deeper appreciation for Memorial Day and its true meaning: to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military.
This Digital Thursday leading into Memorial Day Weekend, we will be talking with US Military Veteran thought leaders in the cannabis industry about current issues surrounding PTSD, medicinal treatment possibilities, and how to best honor those who’ve served:
Leo Bridgewater Sr. was born and raised in Trenton NJ. An Army Specialist who served multiple tours in Iraq, and directly under notable leaders such as, then Lt. General David Patreaus and Admiral Mike Mullens. Leo has also worked for the Dept. of the Army at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. in telecommunications and logistics.
After learning that multiple veteran friends took their own lives by suicide, Leo became an activist for PTSD treatment. Leo’s advocacy has led him to testify in state and federal Senate Committee hearings on the subject of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and he has successfully worked to pass legislation for additional recognition and coverage of medical treatment options.
As National Director of Veterans Outreach with Minorities 4 Medical Marijuana, Leo was recognized in 2019 as The International Cannabis Awards Activist of the Year, and one of Yahoo’s 65 Outstanding Black and Hispanic Male Leaders in the Cannabis Industry.
Leo works to bring organizations, and individuals to the table for Reine Media social justice projects. As National Outreach Director of Reine Media, Leo looks to be a vessel by which the Cannabis/Hemp industry works through globally.
Leo is married to Dr. LaShona Bridgewater PhD and has two children: Leo Jr. 13 and Langston 3.
