DC Mayor Muriel Bowser Looks to Legalize the Sale of Recreational Marijuana in D.C.
DC Mayor Muriel Bowser plans to submit the legislation of Recreational Marijuana early in 2019 and those aged 21 and older will be able to legally purchase recreational marijuana with no worries.
The D.C.’s Mayors goal is to legalize the sale of marijuana in the District in her second term.
Under DC law possessing under two ounces or less of marijuana is legal in the city but the transfer is only legal ‘so long as there is no payment made or any other type of exchange of goods or services,” the law states.
“We have the ability to possess marijuana but no legal way to buy marijuana. As long as we have the ability to possess marijuana, which is our law, we also need the ability to procure marijuana legally. Which we don’t have now,” Bowser said.
Smoking, eating, or drinking marijuana – or holding or carrying a lighted roll of paper or other lighted smoking equipment filled with marijuana – in any public space, is still illegal under D.C. law.
